Dr. Abigail McNally is a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Belmont Center with over twenty years of clinical experience. Trained in psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapy, and trauma-informed models (e.g., IFS), she specializes in long-term, intensive treatments with individuals looking to make deep and lasting changes in the ways they approach love, work, and play. With a warm, compassionate, flexible, and integrative approach, Dr. McNally's work reflects utmost respect and humility for the complexity of the human condition. She works with adults, college students, and couples, and also provides consultation and supervision to professionals in the field.
In addition to a general focus on anxiety, self-esteem, and life transitions, Dr. McNally maintains specialties in the treatment of PTSD/trauma, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, and attachment disorders. She has formerly held Clinical and Training Directorships at residential and day treatment programs specializing in these areas and has also previously served as a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Smith College. At present, Dr. McNally is a faculty member, supervising analyst, member of the board, and secretary of the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP). She immerses herself theoretically in object relations, attachment theory, relational psychoanalysis, and neo-Bionian field theory, and likes to think this study helps her join in the intensive work with greater depth, curiosity, patience, and awe.
